April 21st, 2008
World cereal stocks are at an all-time low, food-aid programmes have run out of money and millions face starvation. Yet wealthy countries persist with plans to use grain for petrol. Plus Iain Macwhirter on how food prices are rocketing

Website Discussion
March 18th, 2008
Paul and I have agreed that the website will carry a similar design as to what you see right now. However, I was thinking of some more features we could add on. Leave comments and I will continually update this post.
3/18/2008
- All posts come with an RSS feed for comments that I can use to display when people comment on others posts.
I’d like to add a way to sort by newest comments, so we can hold group dialogs on a given topic easily.- Perhaps instead, integrate a Facebook-esque Dashboard that alerts everyone when someone comments (unless we get a ton of random folks comments, hahaha, like that will ever happen).
- A horizontal scrollbar at the top of the layout that links to Comics, Movies, Blogs, Pictures
- Joel’s Inanimate Drawings of ourselves in the left & right margins.
The Postman
March 18th, 2008
I’m not certain why I hadn’t thought of this possibility earlier, but it seems The Postman is a book by author David Brin. The plot summary of the book describes it as being wildly different than the movie I love so much. Here’s an excerpt from the wikipedia page:
“Later, in the second section, he encounters a community (Corvallis, Oregon) led by Cyclops, apparently a sentient artificial intelligence created at Oregon State University which miraculously survived the cataclysm. However, the machine was actually destroyed, and the appearance of it is being maintained by a group of scientists trying to keep hope, order, and knowledge alive.”
Pretty strange. I’ll definitely be reading this one at some point.
Hulu goes public.
March 12th, 2008
Not long ago, I showed you all Hulu (legit, free video). Now, it has gone public to everyone, and added feature length movies. I invite you to go check it out. If you haven’t gotten a chance to watch all the episodes of Firefly yet, you can do it there.

Who’s this lady? Who cares!
Also featuring such classics as Doogie Howser, Andy Richter’s short lived show, Bruce Campbell’s Jack of All Trades, Live Action Tick (featuring Putty), The A-Team, and The Munsters c’mon!
Netvibes
February 8th, 2008
Yet another social networking website is striking the internet with some alarming development speed. This website is called Netvibes. Unlike the structured pages of Facebook and MySpace, Netvibes offers a clean slate for you to add all sorts of modules to your page. By going to Netvibes you will see exactly what I mean.
More recently in their development cycle, they have released something called “Universes“. This is really just a fancy name for “a place I can share the crap I care about with other folks“. Previous, Netvibes was entirely private, and operated as a great place for a default Home Page that your browser went to by default. iGoogle is still a good choice for this. I was using iGoogle until I heard of Netvibes, however the vibrant development surrounding Netvibes has convinced me to start using it, and now you can see the crap I care about, folks.
I wanted to show you my National Public Radio page I put together in 10 minutes using Netvibes. Here I can get a quick glance at all of my topics of interest from NPR. If you feel this page keeps you “in the know”, feel free to add it as your homepage.
Another neat thing about these “Universes” is that a bunch of us could add junk to them at the same time. So for instance, one day, we might want to think about making an SRM Universe. Check out Netvibes and play around with it.
New and Improved SRM Navigation Menu

Check it out here, and please leave feedback onto how speedy it is now. It’s pretty speedy for me, but I doubt it’s without some hiccups.
An “The Office” Cliptacular

I wanted to show you all this little website called Hulu. I also wanted to see how well the clips embedded in here. Enjoy.
The Best of Backgrounds
January 27th, 2008
If mankind has yet to discover a more glorious background, I have yet to see it.
And to all you naysayers out there, I dare you to say it to this face.

Snickers
January 23rd, 2008
Well, I did write a fantastic post about Snickers bars here. But some lame yahoo plugin that I’ve now disabled ruined it. Up yours, Yahoo!
